Film coating:

Film coatings are a new technology that act as a protective layer for tablets, in addition to providing color. These coatings have various applications and are widely used in the pharmaceutical industry as a layer that protects the active ingredients inside the tablet and prevents the entry of any contamination or moisture into the tablet.

Efficiency of film coatings

  • Ready-to-use coatings
  • Modified release technology
  • Pharmaceutical acrylic polymers
  • Mouth-cooling drugs
  • Used for taste masking of some unpleasant tasting drugs
  • Maintaining and cohesion of active and auxiliary substances in a single form
  • Increasing the expiration date and preserving the quality of the drug
  • Preventing the penetration of moisture and any contamination into the tablet contents
  • Increasing or decreasing the absorption time and protecting the drug against stomach acid

Types of film coating:

  1. Immediate Release Film Coating: Available in various types and colors, it is designed for medications that need to be released quickly in the digestive system so that the drug enters the bloodstream.
  2. Moisture Barrier Film Coating: Prevents medications from environmental moisture and from becoming gummy or rubbery, allowing tablets to maintain their quality and effectiveness for a longer time, especially in humid and tropical cities.
  3. Delay Release Film Coating: Used for medications that need to be released and absorbed in the body over a longer period.
  4. Nutraceutical Film Coating: Used for dietary supplements and nutrient-rich vitamins.
  5. Chewable Film Coating: Besides protecting the active ingredient, it allows the consumer to chew and absorb the tablet orally.
  6. Controlled Release Film Coating: Compatible with ready-to-use polymers.
  7. Extended Cooling Boosters: Provides a cooling sensation to the consumer upon contact with the tongue and is available in various colors and flavors upon request.
  8. Pharma Acting Copolymers: Used for tablets that may damage the surface tissue of the stomach or for medications that lose their efficacy upon contact with stomach acid and need to be released in the intestine.
  9. Neutral Pellets: Colorless and the simplest type of coating.
  10. Seal Coated Neutral Pellets: Prevents the entry of any additional substances or contaminants into the tablet’s contents.
  11. Polishing System: These coatings become slippery when exposed to water, making swallowing easier for the consumer.
